A wonderful sukiya-style house.
That is the former residence of Shiga Naoya.
There is a corridor that surrounds the central courtyard.
The rooms and windows all face the central courtyard or the outer garden.
From the second floor guest room, you can see Mt. Wakakusa and from the first floor dining room, you can see both the central courtyard and the outer garden.
So the view is good from everywhere.
The dining room is a comfortable space that opens onto a bright sunroom.
The sunroom has an atmosphere that mixes Eastern and Western styles.
There is even a square stone water basin called a tsukubai and a small entrance to the tea room called a nijiriguchi. You can go to and from the Japanese-style room next door through the nijiriguchi.
It’s a house where you can’t help but stay for a long time.
