Kyoto

When you step into the vast Heian-jingu Garden, you will see four gardens.South Garden, West Garden, Central Garden, and East Garden. In the South Garden and West Garden, you can take a walk through nature along the lush ponds. In the Central Garden, there is the Garyu Pond, which features the Garyu Bridge, a floating stone made of similar round stones arranged in the shape of a dragon. These round stones are said to be the piers of the Sanjo Bridge and Gojo bridge built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi.

Incidentally, the Taiheikaku Bridge was relocated from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The water source for these four ponds is Lake Biwa Canal. Water is supplied from the east to the central, west, and south gardens. The gardens were designed by the 7th generation Jihei Ogawa.
