Katsura Rikyu(Katsura Imperial Villa) was built in the 17th century as a villa for the Imperial Family, and was administered by the Ministry of the Imperial Household in the 19th century. It is a valuable building and garden that still retains the appearance of its original construction. The large grounds are dotted with four tea-ceremony pavilions surrounding a pond. The garden commands a distant view of Mt. Atago (924 meters high) in the west and Mt.Hiei (848 meters high) in the east of Kyoto. This is a famous garden that is the pride of Japan, where one can feel the traditional beauty of Japan. Although it is located far from Kyoto city, it is a garden you should definitely visit when you come to Kyoto.
