Daitoku-ji Temple is a silent Zen temple.
If you want to experience the silent Kyoto, I recommend Daitoku-ji Temple.
This temple has many sub-temples with Zen-style gardens. Some sub-temples are always open to the public, but others are only open on special days. The sub-temples of Daitoku-ji Temple may be closed in the evening, so it’s best to get there early.
Even if you just walk around the grounds of Daitoku-ji Temple, you can experience the calm atmosphere of a Zen temple.Incidentally, if you walk around the grounds of Daitoku-ji Temple, taking in the gardens of the three sub-temples (Daisen-in Temple, Zuiho-in Temple and Ryugen-in Temple), it will take about 2 to 2.5 hours. If you visit Daitoku-ji Temple, please take plenty of time.
Also, you can get to Imamiya-jinja Shrine, where you can eat Aburi-mochi rice cakes, in about 10 minutes on foot from Daitoku-ji Temple, so I recommend visiting Imamiya-jinja Shrine as well. If you also visit Imamiya-jinja Shrine, you will need 3 hours for the Daitoku-ji Temple tour.

There is a city bus from Kitaoji Station on the Subway Karasuma Line to Daitoku-ji Temple. It is also possible to walk there from the station in about 15 minutes.
