At the summit of Mt. Hachiman, there is a spot with a spectacular view and a quiet temple (Omi-Hachiman)

Shiga

Mt.Hachiman(Altitude: approx. 270m) is the site of Hachimanyama Castle. Only the stone walls of the castle remain. You can reach the summit by ropeway.Once you reach the summit, you will be greeted by a panoramic view of Lake Biwa and the city of Omi-Hachiman.

And here stands the Zuiryu-ji Temple, nestled in tranquility. This temple is related to Toyotomi Hidetsugu, the lord of Hachimanyama Castle who killed himself.Originally located in Kyoto City, the temple was relocated to the summit of Mt.Hachiman.Moreover, the temple stands on the site of the main keep of Hachimanyama Castle.

It takes 4 minutes by ropeway to reach the summit.Normally, visitors use the ropeway to descend, but I discovered a trail and decided to walk down.It took 15 minutes, but the steep slope is dangerous. I do not recommend this route. It is better to take the ropeway down.

It takes about 40 minutes by JR from Kyoto Station to Omi-Hachiman Station. From Omi-Hachiman Station, take the Omi Bus and get off at Hachiman-bori Bus Stop (about 6 minutes).
