The Randen

The Keifuku Electric Railroad is called Randen in Kyoto. It is a local tram that runs along the streets of Kyoto. The vehicles are not particularly new, but that is part of the charm of this tram. This tram runs along the western side of Kyoto City. Nowadays, you can see many foreign tourists on the tram, but the Randen is a means of transport for the citizens of Kyoto.
The tracks form a shape that is like a sideways Y.

The starting point is Shijo Omiya Station. The final stop is Arashiyama Station. The main line runs from Shijo Omiya Station to Arashiyama Station. Along the way, the Kitano Line runs from Katabirano-tsuji Station to Kitano Hakubaicho Station, the nearest station to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.

There are many shrines and temples along the Randen line. It is worth taking this train if you get off along the way and visit these shrines and temples.
