Osaka-jo Castle is one of my favorite places. I’ve been here many times, but I always think it’s a great castle.Recently, Universal Studios Japan has become the most popular tourist destination in Osaka, but if you visit Osaka, you should definitely visit Osaka-jo Castle. The most attractive features of Osaka-jo Castle are its stone walls and the moat that reflects the walls onto the water. The moat was built in the early Edo period (1603-1868), and many of the stone walls are also from that period.

As everyone knows, Osaka-jo Castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the powerful ruler who unified Japan. However, the castle we see today was rebuilt by the Tokugawa shogunate, which came to power after the fall of the Toyotomi clan.
The Tokugawa shogunate also came to an end, and Osaka-jo Castle became the stage for the final chapter of the Edo period (1603-1868).

Incidentally, the castle tower, which is the symbol of Osaka-jo City, was rebuilt in 1931 with donations from the citizens of Osaka on top of the castle tower foundation from the Edo period(1603-1868) and is now a museum made of reinforced concrete.

The area around Osaka-jo Castle is known as Osaka Castle Park, which features forests, cafes, restaurants, a concert hall, an outdoor music hall, and other facilities that serve as a place of relaxation for citizens.

To get to Osaka-jo Castle from Kyoto City.
Take the Hankyu Railway from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station to Osaka Umeda Station. Transfer to the JR line and get off at Osakajo-koen Station (fourth stop). The trip takes about 70 minutes.
