Visit the Kujo-ke family’s detached residence, Shusui-tei (Kyoto)

Kyoto

Shusui-tei is a building from the late Edo period (1603-1868).This building is both a detached residence and a tea ceremony room for the Kujo-ke family.

The Kujo-ke family is one of Gosekke (five families of the Fujiwara clan-Konoe-ke,Kujo-ke,Nijo,Ichijo-ke,and Takatsukasa-ke), and is a family with a great history.

Unfortunately, the tea room attached to the building cannot be used, but the view of Kujo-ike Pond from the veranda is very atmospheric. Even though there is such a nice place, there are people who don’t know about Shusui-tei.

If you visit right after it opens, there are hardly any visitors, so,you can almost have the pond to yourself from the veranda.Unfortunately, it is only open three days a week, so be careful.
