I visited Shugakuin Imperial Villa in the rain (Kyoto)

Kyoto

This is my second visit to Shugakuin Imperial Villa. I last visited in October four years ago. At that time, the Rinun-tei Pavilion in the Upper Palace was under renovation, but this time I was able to go to the Rinun-tei Pavilion.

Unfortunately, the rain meant the view from the Rinun-tei Pavilion.was not good, but I think it’s still nice to look out over the Yokuryu-chi Pond and the hazy scenery from this slightly elevated spot. The mountains behind the Yokuryu-chi Pond are veiled in mist, making it look like a ink wash painting. The last time I visited was on a sunny day, but even in the rain, Shugakuin Imperial Villa has its own charm.

To get to Shugakuin Imperial Villa, board the Eizan Railway at Demachiyanagi Station and get off at Shugakuin-mae. From there, it’s a little over a 20-minute walk.
