Walking along the promenade to Misu Lock, a heritage site in Fushimi (Fushimi)

In Fushimi, there is the “Fushimi Jukkoku-Bune Cruise” that takes you around the waterways.The cruise goes from behind the Sake brewery at the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Museum to Misu lock (Misu-koumon) and back.The same cruise route allows visitors to walk along the waterway.From the Gekkeikan Sake Brewery, pass the Teradaya Ryokan and head south on the Fushimideai-bashi Bridge.

Have you ever been to Shugakuin Imperial Villa? (Kyoto)

Construction of the Shugakuin Imperial Villa began under Emperor Emeritus Go-Mizunoo between 1655 and 1656 during the Edo period, and was completed around 1959.The Shugakuin Imperial Villa encompasses three areas: the Upper Villa, Middle Villa, and Lower Villa. Its vast grounds include the pine-lined paths connecting each villa and the adjacent farmland.

In Okazaki, there is a villa called “Murin-an” that was the garden villa of Yamagata aritomo, a statesman during the Meiji and Taisho periods. It is a luxurious garden with water from the Lake Biwa Canal flowing into the garden and the Higashiyama mountains as a borrowed landscape.

I went to see the garden at Kyutei Omuro. It is located in a quiet residential area near Ninna-ji Temple, at the northern foot of Ichino-oka Hill.Perhaps because I visited during the hot part of the day, there were few people around, so I was able to relax in the tea house in the garden.

Visit the stone garden at Ryoan-ji Temple (Kyoto)

Ryoan-ji Temple, famous for its rock garden, attracts many tourists who come here just to see the garden.If you want to see the rock garden, it's best to go early in the morning. You can sit on the veranda of the Hojo building, where there are fewer people, and meditate in the silence, facing the rock garden. The rock garden at Ryoan-ji Temple is a peaceful and pleasant space, but I think the forest surrounding the temple is also a healing space.

From morning, take your time to enjoy the gardens of Tenryu-ji Temple. The Sogen-chi Pond Garden, as seen from the Dai-hojo(ceremonial hall) and the Ko-hojo(reception hall), is a superb garden that makes use of the scenery of Arashiyama as a backdrop.

The old Kawamoto-ro (Former Kawamoto-ke Family Residence) is a red-light district built in the Taisho era (1912-1926). This building is located in Dosenji-cho, Yamato Koriyama City.When each room of the three-story wooden building is lit up,the building had a strong sense of presence at that time.The courtyard seen from the hall has a certain charm.

In the middle of the summer heat, I went to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine on Mt.Inari (Fushimi)

Fushimi Inari Taisha is located on Mt.Inari, a 233-meter-high mountain at the southernmost tip of the 36 peaks of the Higashiyama mountain range.This time, I went to the Ganriki-sha Shrine on the mountainside. This is a shrine where, in addition to recovery from eye diseases, you can pray for “insight” and “the gift of eyesight”. Many business people and company owners come to pray at this shrine.

First, we headed for the ruins of Koriyama Castle.Climbing up to the castle tower, we can see Mt. Wakakusa and Todai-ji Temple to the east, Mt.Nijo and Mt.Katsuragi to the west.The stone walls of the castle keep incorporate stone that was diverted for use in the construction, showing the painstaking effort that went into building more stone walls.

Walking around Imai-cho, which retains the style of the Edo period (Kashihara)

In Imai-cho, I took a trip back in time to the Edo period(1603-1868).As it is a preserved area, the style of the Edo period remains intact.Originally, it was a temple town built around Shoninji Temple in the mid-16th century.This settlement is an autonomous city surrounded by moats and walls.
